Danny Lane is one of the world's most innovative and prolific glass sculptors and Future Group Lighting Design has worked with him on projects throughout the world. This recent ensemble, at Allegheny College in Meadville Pennsylvania, was commissioned after other work was seen in New York and elsewhere.

The Seven, weigh 70 tonnes and form three groups:-

The Three Graces some 5m (17ft) high, seen in the background, each twist in plan by slightly different amounts, but line up at the top along the circumference of the circle around which they are situated. Daylight lenses through, in an every changing way. At nighttime, carefully crafted light beams produce the same effect.

The three, "Alligator" walls appear as if they should fit together in an expanded plate tectonic sort of way, but they do not quite. Instead they sense "movement" and Danny was open to form the twists in the glass to suit the way it needed to be lit.

The stand alone, Wedge wall aligns with the centre rather like sundials do. The glass is chamfered and we wanted this edge to produce a blade of light to cut through the often frozen night sky and leave the rest of the piece unlit. It is a stunning example of light art and science working together.
